Martlets Fall in OT

The Martlets were back on the road to face the Saints from Canterbury. The Martlets came out flying and jumped out to an early 2-0 lead thanks to goals by Gus McGarvey ’26 and Quinn Pine ’25. The Saints responded with two of their own before the end of the period to send both teams to the intermission with 2 goals apiece. Once again, the Martlets came out hot to start the second period and reclaimed a two-goal lead off great shots by Michael Bianco ’23 and Brian Judge ’23 who both beat the Saints netminder glove side high. The second period offered up some great end to end action with both goalies making big saves at key times. With the game tied at 4 and with just one period left to play both teams came out hard to start to the third. As the period wore on both teams had chances, and to kill off penalties. With just under 3 to play the Martlets were called for a penalty and the Saints scored on the ensuing power play to take the 5-4 lead with just a minute to left to play. With the goalie pulled, Eric Elbery ’23 tied the game at 5 and sent it to OT. The Saints took advantage of an opportunistic bounce and scored the game winner just 34 seconds into OT. A hard-fought loss for the Black and Gold against a very good Canterbury team. Jack Fichthorn ’26 was great in net for the Martlets, turning away 42 of the 48 shots he faced. Loomis next.
