Martlets Defeat Marianapolis

The Martlets welcomed the Knights of Marianapolis to Pette Gymnasium. While Marianapolis may live in the quiet corner of the state, the game was anything but as frequent fouls and whistles rang like the bells of the Andrews Memorial Chapel. Alex Wood ‘25 drove to the rim with authority with nine of his seventeen points coming in the first half. Declan Cody ‘25 and Rhys Marschke ‘24 helped provide tight perimeter defense as the Martlets adjusted into a full court man to man. Hugh Olson’s (‘25) work rate helped elevate the team with ten rebounds and timely cuts into open spaces. Jinn Lee ‘24 added two three-pointers in the first half. The Martlets headed into the locker room with a 35-28 lead but Marianapolis came out with some quick three-pointers to ultimately keep the game close until the final seconds. Active hands leading to seven steals from Alex Wood ‘25 and a drive to the basket for Declan Cody ‘25 who added eight points helped maintain the Martlet lead. Draven Chung ‘26 added nine points, seven rebounds, and a block against an undersized Knights frontline, but what the Knights lacked in size they made up for in persistence. The Martlets battled through some frenetic energy and fouling habits, but ultimately found enough composure and grit to once again protect home court and secure a team win. The team looks to travel next with some momentum on the road to the Olcott Center Wednesday at Loomis Chaffee.
