Martlets Defeat Marianapolis

Coming off a grueling battle and loss against Canterbury, the Martlets faced off against Marianapolis Preparatory School less than twenty-four hours later. The team was tired, yet they pushed through to claim victory. We came out firing, earning a quick and solid lead. However, turnovers and offensive stagnation allowed Marianapolis to claw back, even the score, and briefly gain the lead. But solid play from Jayden Reid ‘25, Jermaine James ‘24, and Chris Powell ‘26 helped us to battle back. Powell led the offense with nineteen points, hitting several significant floaters from the lane in the second half; Reid drained fourteen points and dominated the paint with several vital blocks; James sank shots in the first half, especially corner threes, putting eleven points in total on the board. Austin Black ‘24 exerted his influence defensively and on the offensive glass, quelling second-chance opportunities for Marianapolis. Overall, it was not our most efficient or well-played game. A lack of energy and too many small mistakes kept Marianapolis in the game. Still, our team ultimately refused to lose and came out on top.
