Martlets Fall to Deerfield

This was a close one. Deerfield had the edge at the top of the ladder, sweeping the matches at the #1 to #4 positions. Although Will Henry ‘26 and Caden Powers ‘26 lost in straight sets, they battled hard in each game, with Henry succumbing 13-11 in the third frame. At #4, Jonathan Li ‘24 split the first two games, but then ran out of steam and lost the next two. Playing in the second slot, Crosby Cutler ‘27 staved off defeat in the fourth game with a courageous 11-9 win, only to lose the fifth and deceiving game by the same score. Harvey DeMovick ‘24 got the team on the board, playing efficient and steady squash in earning a 3–0 victory. Chip Genung ‘25 played a thrilling seesaw match, with both players fending off numerous match points in the fifth game and Genung’s opponent finally prevailing 16-14. Meanwhile, a trio of Martlets, Mathias Seber ‘26, Tyson Mertz ‘27 and Brooks Berthiaume ‘27, hung on to win their respective matches in five games, displaying tremendous resilience in doing so. In exhibition matches, Gideon Williams ‘27 and Jacob Boghosian ‘27, both new to the game, earned valuable playing experience as they continued to improve.
