Martlets Fall to Salisbury

It was a tough day on the courts for the Martlets, with 3 of our starting players out due to injury and illness. Westminster won the 3 matches at the top of the ladder, and dropped the other four matches at #4-7. Mark Yang ‘26 won his match at #1 in 4 games, which included two games won by only two points (14-12 in game 1, and 11-9 in game 4). Robert Yalda ‘24 and Phil Zhang ‘24, both playing up in the ladder, played great squash to win 4 and 3 game contests respectively. Charlie Raymond ‘24 fought valiantly at #4, as did Grant Owen ‘24, making his debut at number 7. Connor Scollans ‘26 was very close to winning his match at #6. After dropping the first two games 12-14 and 4-11, he fought very hard to pull out the next two, 11-7 and 12-10. After playing a very close last few points, he dropped the fifth game 8-11. Finally, Steven Xie ‘26 split his first two games at number 5. He played hard, but dropped two tight games for games 3 and 4, to give Salisbury the team win. Overall, the boys were disappointed with the loss, but learned many lessons on the court that we will take with us for the remainder of the season. Two more practices await before we travel to Kent on Saturday for the first of a few consecutive away matches.
