Martlets Defeat Kent

In their first match of 2024, the Martlets earned their first victory of the season, sweeping Kent 7-0. The team was fired up to get a win and delivered in their home courts. Number 2 Camilla Norton ‘25, #3 Clover Cooper ‘26, #4 Alex Musser ‘26, and #7 Lilly McMillen ‘27 all won without dropping a game. McMillen was particularly dominant and Cooper also did not let her opponent get any kind of rhythm. At #1, captain Maddie Clark ‘25 faced a capable opponent but won the first game handily. She lost the second but came back to win the third 11-1 and hold on to take the fourth game and the match 11-8. Lucy Morton ‘26 looked like she was cruising to victory at #5 but lost focus and dropped the third game. She re-centered and won in four. Finally Grace Kim ‘25 had the closest match of the day. She won the first two game with some nice drop shops and mixing up her play. Her opponent battled back and played more strategic squash, winning the next two. In the final fifth game, Kim played smarter, hitting balls deep into the corners. This earned her the win. In exhibition matches, the Martlets were also successful with Lune Yang ‘26, Tarapi Pyo ‘24, Caroline Callen ‘26 and Katherine Hull ‘26 all notching victories. Next up the Martlets host K-O on Friday.
