Martlets Fall to Choate

The Martlets have been on the road a lot this season, but today’s game against Choate began a series of home games, opportunities to play in front of our crowd and defend our gym. Despite losing this first game, there were spurts of beautiful basketball. The first half was a mixed bag. Some sloppy play helped Choate achieve an early lead. But excellent play also kept us in the game. Chris Powell ‘26 led the offense with twenty-five points overall, with fifteen points coming in the first half. Austin Black ‘26 fought for rebounds and put back points, earning four. Although we were down after the first half, Thomas Blouin ‘26 drained a turnaround three just before the buzzer at the half. It was a good sign. The team battled back in the second half and played much better overall. Our best stretch of the game came at the beginning of the second half. We made some defensive adjustments, which helped us get some turnovers of our own and six straight points. Once Choate called timeout, the energy on the bench changed significantly. We knew we could compete, and we did. The second half was much more balanced defensively and offensively. Jermaine James ‘26 and Jayden Reid ‘25 came alive in the second half, earning ten and eight points, respectively, while Johnny Hadden ‘26, Jake Carbone ‘26, and Wills Lown ‘26 all contributed. Our team showed resilience today, and we hope to put all the pieces together against Canterbury on Friday.
