Martlets Defeat Taft

This afternoon the Martlets traveled to Watertown, CT to take on the Rhino’s from Taft for a Founders League matchup.  This was the first game of the new year for both the Rhino’s and Martlet’s.  The game was off to a quick start as Bella Zapata ‘27 was able to find the back of the net just 40 seconds into the game.  The Martlets held onto a 1-0 lead until the Rhino’s were able to tie the score with a power play goal less than a minute into the second period.  Halfway through the second period the Martlets capitalized on a power play when Mackenzie Silliman ‘26 took a shot from the point and Sydney Courtmanche ‘24 crashed the net and put the rebound in.  Just minutes later the Martlets increased their lead to two with a goal from Adrienne Hall ‘25.  The Martlets were in the lead 3-1, but the Rhino’s did not let up.  With under five minutes left in the second period the Rhino’s scored to make it a one goal game.  For the remainder of the contest the score stayed locked at 3-2.  The Martlets got their first win of the new year and increased their record to 6-2-1.
