Martlets Fall on the Road

Coming off a 2-1 record in the Frosty tournament before the winter break, the Martlets rolled down I-84 to take on the Middlesex Zebras, feeling confident despite the threat of an impending snowstorm. We got off to a strong start in the first half. Wills Lown ‘24 drained a three from the corner on the game’s first possession, giving the team a spark of energy after a sleepy two-hour bus ride. Soon after, Chris Powell ‘26 got a hot hand, draining five threes in the first half, earning us a solid lead initially. Middlesex battled back, but we went into halftime with a three-point lead. But our offensive production stalled in the second half, scoring only an additional eighteen points. Jayden Reid ‘25 still scored effectively from the midrange and the post, putting up eight points in the second half, while Johnny Hadden ‘24 and Jermaine James ‘24 each put five on the board. Middlesex did not fare better for much of the second half, but they scored more in the game’s closing minutes, giving them the lead toward the end. We will take on Choate for our next game at home.
