Martlets Fall to AOF

The Martlets traveled the short distance from Simsbury down Route 202 to the fieldhouse of rival Avon Old Farms. Max Williams ‘25 spearheaded the offense looking to attack from the opening whistle. He eurostepped and brushed off defenders with seven first half points of his twelve total. With both parents in attendance, Finn Williams ‘26 heeded the call from practice, playing aggressively and knocking down a pure fadeaway jumper from the key while securing loose balls. The pressure from the Winged Beaver defense created a dam to the basket, changing the tempo of the game and creating a deficit heading into the half. Coming out of the locker room, the team channeled some resilience. Ethan Hernandez ‘28 had an authoritative block on top of eight total points. Hugh Olson ‘25 led the way with seven rebounds, including a put back score. Jinn Lee ‘24 found some magic within his legs, notching seven points in the second half. Brody DiBeneditto ‘27 added a sharpshooting three from distance, helping the Martlets cut the deficit to seven. Michael Basich ‘27 rang in the New Year by making a pair of free throws. Alexei Kocatas ‘25 netted four points, but his presence was felt all over the floor with hard drives to the rim, communication, and active defense. While the final run by the Martlets was not enough to overcome the stalled first half offensive output, Logan Sun ‘24 drained a three late and Draven Chung ‘27 made his debut off injured reserve. There is little time for the Martlets to ponder as next week brings three opponents to Williams Hill with Choate starting off the homestand next Wednesday.
