Martlets and Williston Tie

This afternoon the Westminster Martlets took on the Williston Wildcats in the third place game at the Harrington Invitational.  The play in the first period was back and forth, but the Martlets found themselves on their heels as Williston was able to sustain offensive pressure and scored with one minute left in the first period.  Less than four minutes into the second period the Martlets were able to tie the score.  Olivia Gordon and Bella Zapata streamed down the ice on a 2v1.  Gordon made a great pass to Zapata who shot the puck into the top right corner of the net.  Later in the second period, Williston took the lead again. Going into the third, Westminster had some work to do as they were down 2-1.  With just over five minutes left in the game, Williston received a penalty putting the Martlets on a two minute power play.  Bella Zapata scored a power play goal off of a rebound, with Olivia Gordon and Sydney Courtmanche assisting.  The game stayed locked at 2 for the remainder of regulation and a five minute overtime period.  The Martlets lost 3-2 in a five player shootout and the Wildcats claimed third place in the Harrington Invitational.  A great showing for the Martlets who are now heading into the holiday break 5-2-1.
