Martlets Fall to Kent

This afternoon the Martlets took on Kent, in Jackson Rink, for their first Founders League matchup of the season.  With both teams coming into today with a 2-0 record; we knew it was going to be a hard fought game.  Right from the drop of the puck the play was back and forth, with each team trading scoring opportunities.  The score stayed locked at 0 through the 1st period.  Just two minutes into the 2nd period the Martlets took the lead when Remi Morello ‘25 chipped the puck to Talia Ondy ‘25 in the neutral zone.  Ondy gained the zone with speed, protected the puck, and ripped a shot over the netminder's shoulder off the crossbar and in.  Only two minutes later Kent was able to capitalize on a 2v2 rush and tied the score at 1.  The 2nd period continued with more opportunities for both teams.  With under two minutes left in the period the Martlets were stuck in their defensive zone.  Kent was able to find an open player in front of the net and take the lead 2-1 to go into the second intermission.  With 13 minutes left in the 3rd period Kent was able to increase their lead to two.  The remaining time in the 3rd the Martlets had their chances, including two power plays and multiple shots off posts, but unfortunately were not able to capitalize.  Final score Kent 3 and Westminster 1.  Martlets are back at it next Monday 12/11 for another Founders League matchup in Jackson Rink against Loomis.
