Martlets and Bruins Tie

After three road games in a row, the Martlets finally found themselves in the friendly confines of Jackson Rink for a matinee match-up with the Bruins from Brunswick. This game always proves to be a tight match-up between two teams that are built much the same. Both teams, historically, while undersized play with a lot of pace, structured, and highly offensive. Yesterday's game certainly showcased two very talented teams who played the game at a high level for 59 minutes. The Martlets came out firing and generated a few quality chances early in the period. Despite having the Bruins on their heels, the Wick netminder stood tall and turned away bid after bid to keep the Black and Gold off the board. About half way through the first, Brunswick struck first to take a 1-0 lead and carry that lead into the second period. The second frame was the best 18 minutes of the day for the Martlets. Zone time was high, and chances were plentiful but the Wick tender played outstanding all day, especially in the middle frame. Eventually, the Martlets broke through and Tommy Coccaro '26 netted his first as a Martlet off a very nice deke. Just two minutes later Michael Bianco '24 scored again for the Black and Gold off a secondary scoring chance created by a rebound in front. The Martlets, up 2-1, going into the 3rd knew their opponent was going to push hard in the third and Wick did just that. They carried the play in the third forcing the Martlets to have to weather a few storms in their zone. Matteo De Luca '24 played great in the third and turned away many grade-A chances. Wick, despite being short-handed, capitalized on a turnover and tied the game at 2. Regulation ended with the game knotted at 2 and sent the teams into the 5-minute OT. Overtime saw a few chances each way but both goalies were equal to the task and the game would end tied at 2.  Both teams played well and will head into the Holiday Tournaments next weekend.
