Martlets Finish 3rd

The Westminster Boys’ and Girls’ swimming/diving teams had a phenomenal meet this Saturday at the Kingswood Oxford Invitational. The Girls’ team raced against seven other schools and placed third overall, while the boys’ team raced against eight other schools and placed sixth (despite having a small number of swimmers to compete). The success of both teams is indicative of the grit, determination, and hard-work that the swimmers have poured into practice each day and the support they offer each other through an incredibly challenging sport.

The Girls’ team started strong in the 200 Yard Medley Relay. The team was composed of Jennifer Weber ‘26, Madison Khuu ‘24, Hayden Schneider ‘25, and Grace Tyler ‘24. The girls’ placed second in this event in a time of 2:05.11. Following this event, Jennifer Weber had a tremendous swim in the 200 Freestyle, scoring first place for the Martlets and fighting hard to out touch second place by .30 seconds. Weber swam a 2:14.49 in the event. Other highlights included Grace Tyler’s second-place finish in the 500 Freestyle. Tyler swam the first 100 with great determination and finished the race in a time of 5:58.35. It is a wonderful accomplishment to be under the six minute mark at the second race of the season. Tyler swam the 100 Yard I.M. immediately after her 500 Freestyle and still managed to claim victory for the Martlet’s in that event (1:11.30.) In the 200 Freestyle relay, first-time Martlet swimmer Grace Li ‘26 joined first-year Martlet swimmers Savannah Griffith ‘27 and Caroline Hebbeler ‘27, and second-year Martlet swimmer Lily Raskind ‘25 to battle hard for the B-relay team’s eleventh place finish. This relay marked the first relay completed by Griifith, Hebbeler, and Li and was a great accomplishment.

In the second half of the meet, Ellie Pearman ‘25 dove back into the water for the Martlets after a recent surgery to battle it out for a first place finish in the 100 Yard Backstroke. This swim marked a fantastic return to the water for Pearman and demonstrated true grit and perseverance. Finally, Madison Khuu ‘24 claimed a last victory for the Martlets in the 100 Yard Breaststroke, swimming a time of 1:18.24.

A fantastic day of racing for all! The Martlets look forward to a few more hard days training and then a well deserved break!
