Martlets Place 6th

The Westminster Boys’ and Girls’ swimming/diving teams had a phenomenal meet this Saturday at the Kingswood Oxford Invitational. The Girls’ team raced against seven other schools and placed third overall, while the boys’ team raced against eight other schools and placed sixth (despite having a small number of swimmers to compete). The success of both teams is indicative of the grit, determination, and hard-work that the swimmers have poured into practice each day and the support they offer each other through an incredibly challenging sport.

The Boys’ started the meet off in phenomenal fashion. The 200 Medley Relay team composed of John Dwyer ‘26, Reggie Kanu ‘25, Will Larock '26, and Owen Huang ‘24 scored an impressive victory for the Martlets in this event. The boys’ swam a tremendous time of 1:45.75 with each swimmer accomplishing a near personal best in their individual splits. It should be noted that this swim was only Owen Huang’s second back in the water after a medical leave. His determination to compete today for the Martlet’s on the relay teams showed true captainmanship and incredible grit. After the relay, John Dwyer continued the impressive Martlet winning streak by scoring first place in the 200 IM, swimming an amazing time of 2:01.93. Reggie Kanu followed up this win with another victory for the Martlet’s in the 50 Yard Freestyle, swimming an impressive 22.55. Samuel Hyde ‘25 swam one of the toughest events for the Martlets, the 100 Yard Butterfly, and swam a 1:13.72 for the Martlets, racing with grit and heart. Nolan Styspeck ‘25 also had a fantastic swim for the Martlets in the 100 Freestyle, finishing seventh in a time of 1:09.38. Will Larock ‘26 followed up Styspeck in the 500 Freestyle, claiming second place for the Martlets in a time of 5:27.25.

The boys’ began the second half of the meet equally as strong, claiming a hard-fought first place victory in the 200 Freestyle Relay (team of Dwyer, Larock, Huang, and Kanu). John Dwyer won his second event of the day, the 100 Yard Backstroke in an incredible time of 54.65. Finally, Reggie Kanu closed the meet with a highlight swim in the 100 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 1:05.44.

A fantastic day of racing for all! The Martlets look forward to a few more hard days training and then a well deserved break!
