Martlets Fall to Porter's

The final score is deceiving because it was a great day in Farmington playing the Daisies. For 9 of the 13 girls that ventured across the Farmington Valley, this was their first squash match ever. It is fabulous that they all are trying a new sport and challenging themselves to complete after just a few days of practice. After announcing our lineup, Virginia Whiting ‘26 had an incredible comeback in her first game: down 2-7, she fought back and gave up only one more point, winning the game 11-3. Though she ended up losing the match, it was a stunning run. In her first match ever, Marlee Spiro ‘27 refused to lose in a sweep and fought hard to win the third came against an opponent with a tricky back corner serve. Sofiia Kondratiuk ‘26 won the award for most committed, skidding on the floor while diving for a ball and now has a skinned knee as her battle scar. The quote of the day came from Caroline Breslav ‘26. As she got off the court and was congratulated by her teammates for a great low ball, she exclaimed “I didn’t know I could do that!” Special thank you to Lily Abdel-Meguid ‘26 and Harriett Leventhal ‘26 for playing two matches due to the lopsided numbers of our teams. While it wasn’t a win in the scorebook, there were definitely many individual wins throughout the match.
