Martlets Defeat Salisbury

The Martlets opened their season with a convincing win over a talented Salisbury squad. Gideon Williams ‘27, Ethan McQueeney ‘27, and Luke Hugabonne ‘27 battled hard in their first-ever squash match, displaying gritty determination despite failing to come up with the victory. Meanwhile, fellow 3rd formers Brooks Berthiaume ‘27, Tyson Mertz ‘27, Zach Li ‘27, and Daniel Frid ‘27 all recorded wins in straight sets, with Berthiaume eking out his first two games 14-12 and 12-10. Newcomers Crosby Cuter ‘27 and Caden Powers’ 26, playing at #2 and #3 respectively, needed four games to secure the W while showing much poise and finesse on the court. Returning veterans Chip Genung ‘25, Mathias Seber ‘26, and Harvey DeMovick ‘24 controlled their matches with steady, consistent shotmaking and a modicum of unforced errors. The match of the day belonged to Will Henry ‘26, playing at the top spot and  showing why he deserved to be there. He staved off his opponent’s second-game comeback, holding on to win 13-11, and then turned things up a notch as he yielded only a single point in the final game. All in all, a very promising start for Westminster.
