Martlets Fall to Deerfield

The first game of the season got the Martlets off to a good start. Taking advantage of the open court, Piper Lundin ‘26 scored the first points of the game, a three pointer! Deerfield tied the score promptly and got in the lead without too much trouble. The Martlets started catching up with the quick pace of the game and started playing offensively. Bella Lillien ‘27 was key to get the ball to the opponents’ court with her quick dribbles and made repeated passes to her teammates to take shots at the basket. Captain Blessing Kieh ‘24 scored 6 points, closing the gap between Deerfield and the Martlets. Her quickness and determination were unmatched, however a few fouls from her part played against the team, giving Deerfield more opportunities to score. During the second half, the defense was strong, which slowed Deerfield’s scoring down. The Martlets started playing more cohesively and made strategic moves to get close to the hoop. This first game was a great opportunity for Westminster to show their great sportsmanship and learn from each other, making the team stronger for the rest of the season. Go Martlets!
