Martlets Defeat T-P

The Martlets were back on the bus today as they headed west to Pawling, NY to faceoff against the Pride from Trinity Pawling. Coming off a solid road win over NMH on Saturday, the Martlets were excited to have another opportunity to grab a road win today. The Black and Gold looked a little sluggish to start this one. It could have been the long bus ride of maybe the Jersey Mike’s turkey, but the Martlets were slow to get rolling. Despite the slower start, the Martlets found their legs a few shifts into the first period. Both teams exchanged chances early on but both netminders played well in the early moments of the first period. The Martlets struck first off a nice individual effort by Gus McGarvey ’26 to absorb contact to get a puck out at our blue line. Patrick Dotson ’24 collected the puck and eventually snuck one past the TP tender. TP kept coming and would eventually tie the game before the first 18 minutes of play ended. The second period offered much of the same end-to-end action. TP took the lead in the second and held it for much of the period. Toward the end of the period, the Martlets found themselves on the power play and Michael Bianco ’24 tipped home a shot from the point to tie the game at 2 apiece. The final period of play was a great prep school period of hockey. Both teams were playing very well, limiting chances, and playing sound defensively. Tino DeFazio ’24 would grab the game-winner for the Martlets off a beauty of a shot that beat the TP goalie short side high to put the game at 3-2 in favor of the Black and Gold. The Martlets would have to kill a few penalties late in the game but played with a lot of Grit to hang on for the win. The team will head to Wallingford Wednesday to play Choate.
