Martlets Fall to Pelicans

The Martlets rumbled and bumbled in a pack of toasters to take on the Loomis Pelicans. In the wake of our loss to Kingswood-Oxford, we looked to bounce back against a tough team. And despite the loss, that’s what we did. We played better on both sides of the floor. Our man-to-man held firm when we made good switches and communicated well. Our bench contributed well on defense, particularly Jake Carbone ‘24 who hassled any Loomis player he guarded. Offensively, we played more settled in the half-court than we did against Kingswood Oxford, moving the ball well and getting everyone involved. This helped to space the floor, giving Jermaine James ‘24 (31 pts) and Chris Powell ‘26 (16 pts) room to work. Jayden Reid ‘25 (7 pts) and Austin Black ‘24 (4 pts) also fought in the paint, getting offensive rebounds and points from put backs. Some players got into foul trouble. Jayden Reid ‘25 and Chris Powell ‘26 fouled out toward the end of the game when we needed their presence most. Although a silver lining loss is not very satisfying, we saw much needed improvement: we played more calmly, stayed together despite the challenge of a hostile environment, and executed pretty well on both sides of the ball. We look forward to taking on Trinity-Pawling for our next home game.
