Martlets Fall to LC

The Martlets opened the season with a match full of close games against Loomis. We expected it to be a fight based on the scrimmage we had earlier in the week where we won 4-3. Today they had the upper hand in some of the individual matches. However, the Martlets still managed to stay in the game and not give up on any points. Elle Wilson, #2 and Natasha Johnson, #7 managed to seal their wins in three games with the immediate upper hand. Mei Yin, #8 managed to win her exhibition match in five games. Alice Tao, #5 and Chase Hager, #6 both lost in three but came back to give their opponents a run for their money losing 13-11 after losing by more than five points in their first two games. Emily Fonner, #4 also lost in 3 with a surge in points in the last game after coming off of an ankle injury. They were able to learn from their first two games to put their opponents under pressure. Margaret Dilks, #3 fought tooth and nail with an evenly matched opponent playing to the fifth name with no more than four points separating their games. In the end her opponent secured the win by two points. Margaret deployed a good level of fitness and grit throughout the entire match. Lastly, Sophia Lazor, #1 put up a good fight against an opponent who she was also pretty evenly matched with. The first two games Loomis #1 won with Sophia quickly coming back with an 11-3 win in the third match. This was good momentum to possibly get another game win under her belt but it was a rough game that took a lot from both players. Sophia had great attack shots that her opponent was able to get to and vice versa. In the fourth game, Loomis was able to secure the win 11-9. Even though the Martlets didn’t take home the win, they each came out of it with a lesson learned about something to take into their next match.
