Martlets Defeat Hill in OT

This afternoon the Martlets took on the Hill School, from Pottstown, PA,  for their first home game in Jackson Rink.  Right from the puck drop there was fast pace play up and down the ice.  Just four minutes into the game Hill struck first.  The puck took a bad bounce over a defensive stick, which led to a breakaway opportunity that Hill was able to capitalize on.  Midway through the 1st period Hill was able to add to their lead to go up 2-0.  The Martlets did not let up and were able to get on the board with 4:30 left in the 1st.  In the defensive zone, Olivia Gordon ‘24 stripped the puck from a Hill defender and attacked the zone 2-on-1 with Adrienne Hall ‘25.  Gordon got a shot off the Hill netminder's blocker and a rebound popped out directly onto Hall’s stick.  Hall made a move around the goalie and was able to slide the puck behind her into the net.  Less than two minutes later the Martlets tied the game up at 2.  After a strong forecheck from the Martlets, Talia Ondy ‘25 cut off the wall and blasted a shot top shelf.  The Martlets headed to intermission tied 2-2.  Black and Gold started strong in the 2nd, sustaining some offensive pressure before they took the lead for the first time in the game.  Seven minutes into the period Bella Zapata ‘27 got the puck in the high slot, made a move around a defender and got a shot onto net.  Gordon, who was screening in front, turned and fought to get another shot off.  Zapata crashed the net and put the Martlets up 3-2.  The score held for the rest of the 2nd and halfway into the 3rd when Hill was able to take advantage of their first power play of the game.  After back and forth play, the game was still tied 3-3 at the end of regulation.  Jackson Rink was buzzing with fans as the Martlets lined up for the 5 minute overtime.  Two minutes into play the Martlets drew a penalty.  Off the faceoff Hill was able to chip the puck into the neutral zone where Mackenzie Silliman ‘26 regrouped to Alex Whalen ‘24, who hit Gordon with a pass.   Gordon entered the zone with speed against a Hill defender and was able to place a shot into the top left corner for a Martlet win!!  The team is back to work this week to prepare for their next matchup this Wednesday vs. Kent.
