Martlets Fall to Wyverns

The Martlets started the year in the Den of the Wyvern of Kingswood Oxford. The Martlets came into the game having only one practice together in the season and the opening five minutes conveyed the youth of the season as Kingswood made a quick run against our man to man defense. Max Williams ‘25 and Alexei Kocatas ‘25 anchored the perimeter zone defense and backcourt for the majority of the game. The Martlets showed great physicality driving to the room and accruing fouls to get into the bonus early in both halves, but needed to convert on free throws. Coming out of the second half, the team responded by making a quick run. Rhys Marschke ‘24 provided a great spark off the bench and helped the offense get into our sets, especially in the second half. Even though he picked up two quick fouls Hugh Olson ‘25, had some clutch free throws to cut the game down to ten. Aidan Walsh ‘24 and Michael Basich ‘25 helped pick up on the glass and fought through contact to the rim. While we were down three members at Model UN solving geopolitical issues, the team showed potential in the way we competed and fought back in the second half. The Martlets open the home season on Wednesday afternoon against Trinity-Pawling.
