Martlets Finish Season with a Shutout

The Quad Squad’s season came full circle on a blustery and sunny November afternoon on the Suffield Tiger’s home turf. Having started the season with a 2-2 tie against the Tigers, the Martlets showed their improved skill and poise by beating Suffield 2-0 and ending the season with a respectable 5-1-2 record. The Martlets jumped out to an early lead–just like they have in several of the past games–with a goal from speedy striker Ethan Villacis ‘27 off of an assist from Benji Hanson ‘27. Westminster added a second goal later in the second half after Benji Hanson ‘27 made a perfect pass to Xavier Kahn ‘27 who one-touched the ball into the left corner, scoring his first goal of the season. Westminster’s offense struggled to control the ball in the second half, but the defense led by a strong performance from Crosby Cutler ‘27 and outstanding goaltending from Ethan Hernandez ‘27 (posting his first “clean sheet” of the year) held off a strong effort from the Tigers. It was great to have Benji Hanson ‘27 return to the pitch for his second game after missing most of the season. Benji was a dedicated member of the team all season and his performance on Saturday showed that he has a very bright soccer future in front of him. Coach Tawney and Coach Lawler are both very proud of the Quad Squad’s excellent season. The boys truly bought in, having fun, working hard, and improving every single day. The coaches are also grateful to all those who supported the team, most notably the parents and all those at Westminster who make our athletics program run so smoothly.
