Martlets Defeat Pomfret

The Martlets traveled to Pomfret this Wednesday to battle against the Griffins. From the first whistle, Westminster came out strong and scored within the first minute. Kaitlyn McQueeney ‘24 played the ball to Blessing Kieh ‘24 who was running on the rightside flank. Kieh dribbled by a defender and crossed the ball into the box for Jillian Gregorski ‘24 to finish. After this first goal, the Martlets slowed down a bit and struggled to finish their chances and make the right passes. The last ten minutes saw a bit of a better showing with two Martlet goals. With nine minutes left in the half, Haley Cramer ‘24 received the ball off of a deflection, dribbled into the Griffin box past multiple defenders, and placed the ball into the back of the net. Cramer once again found the net five minutes later off of a cross from Kieh. The Martlets entered the second half with a bit more urgency and focus on their style of play. Although they played at a faster pace, the Griffin backline held their own and cleared many Martlet attempts. The final three goals of the game came much later on in the half. With 11 minutes remaining, Cramer played a fantastic through ball into the box for Gregorski to run on to and finish with poise and grace. Shortly thereafter, outside back Taryn Overstreet ‘26 played the ball to Gregorski. For the hatrick, Gregroski placed the ball over the hands of the Griffin keeper. In the last two minutes, Cramer was fouled just outside the Pomfret 18 and awarded a free kick. Once the ref gave the go-ahead, Cramer crossed the ball into the box and Mia Fluckiger ‘26 was there for the finish. Goalies Emme Pacheco-Hager ‘25 and Ellie Smith ‘27 helped to record another shutout today for Westminster. With this win, the Martlets wrap up their regular season with a 14-1-1 record.
