Martlets Defeat Kent

Westminster School Martlets traveled to Kent School for their final game of the 2023 season and ended on a high note! The boys worked hard and battled the cold temps and breezy conditions. For most of the game, we controlled the play and pace. Strong, aggressive play kept the ball in our offensive half of the field for most of the game. Gus McGarvey ‘26 opened the scoring in the 13’ on a nicely paced through ball from Jayden Lee ‘25. Two minutes later Lane Gallagher ‘25 scored from in close (shot through the goalie) after a pass from Brenden Gilooly ‘26. Late in the first half Gallagher sent a corner kick into the box and Jake Pleau ‘26 punched the ball into the back of the net. Kent took advantage of a miscue outside our penalty box and converted a quick direct kick into a goal. The halftime whistle blew before the ensuing kick-off and we went to the bench with a 3-1 lead. Excitement on the bench at halftime transferred into even better offensive output led by crisp passing, give-and-go plays, and a nose for the goal! In the 49’ Lee provided another good through ball that Evan Francis ‘26 pushed by the Kent goalie. Seven minutes later Kai Appleton ‘24 scored off a touch pass from Niraj Prakash ‘26 (first point of the season). Continued through ball combination plays led to a goal from Gilooly off another pass from McGarvey. In the 58’ Pleau converted from the middle of the box (good combination passing from Tommy Coccaro ‘26 and McGarvey (again!). Finally, in the 67’ Mark Richardson ‘25 scored his first goal with assists from Gilooly and Prakash. Owen McNally ‘26 played strong central defense and George Baird ‘26 played aggressively, clearing several balls near the top of the box, made timely saves, and only yielded the quick direct kick goal. One last fun practice and a feed on Friday to end the 3BS season!
