Martlets Defeat AOF

We traveled to AOF on a brisk and breezy afternoon and came away with a resounding victory. We started strong and never looked back, forging a 2-0 lead in the game’s first three minutes thanks to goals by Ethan Villacis '27 and Tim Donahue '27, who scored on an assist from Hunter Grace '27. We had several good chances and kept the play in Avon’s end of the field but didn’t tally again until Donahue repaid Grace with a nice cross in front of the goal. The final five minutes was all about Benji Hanson '27. Making his first appearance all season after recovering from a  broken wrist, Hanson scored two goals and assisted on another (scored by Jordan Pham) in a span of four minutes to push our halftime lead to 6-0. Some creative substitutions by Coach Lawler enabled our boys to play some different positions. Bennett Varao '27, who, along with Derrick Logan '27, had played really well on the back wall in the first half, registered his first goal of the year and closed out the Martlet scoring. The Winged Beavers were resilient and kept fighting in the second half and managed to post two scores, one on a penalty kick, but the outcome was never really in doubt. We look to finish a great season strong with a rematch at Suffield on Saturday.
