Martlets Shutout K-O

The Martlets traveled down the street to Kingswood Oxford this Monday to battle against the Wyverns in a make-up match. Westminster came out strong but struggled to find the back of the net despite many scoring opportunities early on. Finally, after a few missed shots, the Martlets scored their first goal off of a corner kick. Maya Goddard ‘26 played a great ball into the box and Haley Cramer ‘24 got on the end of it. Despite her gritty effort, the goalie saved Cramer’s attempt but thankfully Kaitlyn McQueeney ‘24 was there for the rebound finish. The second half saw much more action from the Martlets as they scored an additional four goals. One minute in, Mia Fluckiger ‘26 played a through ball to Jillian Gregorski ‘24. Gregsorski crossed it into the box and Blessing Kieh ‘24 placed the ball into the back of the Wyvern net. Nine minutes later, Catherine Graves ‘24 played the ball across the field to Gregorski. Beating her defender with speed, Gregroski found the open space and slotted the ball in the farside corner. A little after the halfway point in the second half, Westminster received a free kick from 40 yards out. Goddard stepped up and instead of playing a ball into the box, she tried her chances at net and was successful, marking the longest goal the Martlets have had all season. The final goal of the game came with 15 minutes left off of another corner kick from Goddard. Goddard sailed a ball into the box and Cramer was there to head it into the goal. The score remained 5-0 until the final whistle. The Martlets look forward to their final regular season game this upcoming Wednesday against Pomfret. The game will be played away at 2:30 PM.
