Martlets Play Well in Win over Berkshire

Frantz Batoh
The Martlets went into the field full of confidence. As soon as the game started, both teams began fighting for the ball, kicking it back and forth along the field as they tried to score. Around five minutes into the first half, Berkshire scored the first goal of the game. This quick triumph from Berkshire made the Martlets' confidence start to waver. Their passes started getting more robust and less precise in their efforts to score. About five minutes after the first goal, striker Colby Smith '24 scored, tying Berkshire's score. However, this was not enough to bring calm back to the field. The fast pace of the game continued, and the Martlets kept trying to score desperately. Every player was giving their best. However, the team's cohesion needed to be improved. The players were also getting tired, trying to get the ball from the other team and stopping their passes. At half-time, the score was still tied. In an effort to get ahead, the team started playing with four midfielders, which made the passes more accurate, but now there was a need for accurate strikes to make it less harder to score. After many attempts, where the Berkshire defense took the ball from Westminster's strikers, with ten minutes left on the clock, striker Eliza Cabot '24 scored the second goal for Westminster. Until the last minute, the Martlets kept running, defending their goal, and attempting to score again. At the end of the game, the Martlets got the win but also reflected on their team's structure and cohesion to prepare for their next game.
