Martlets Fall to W and M

Westminster School traveled to the corporate hometown of Friendly’s Ice Cream today to take on the WMA JV team. On an unusually shaped pitch (normal length, but quite narrow) the Martlets battled hard all game long, but came up short. Gus McGarvey ‘26 opened the scoring in the 13’. This lead lasted most of the first half, but the Titans scored 2 late goals (34’ and 37’) to take the halftime lead. Early in the second half WMA scored on a long breakaway to increase their lead. A minute later Lane Gallagher ‘25 rang a shot off the crossbar (I think he’s hit a post/crossbar in nearly every game this season!). While the Martlets continued to battle in this physical game (numerous fouls by both teams), the Titans were a strong, well-skilled team who added two more goals later in the game, including a beautiful header off a set play. George Baird ‘26 had his best game of the season in goal. Ethan Hernandez “27 played the second half in net and made several nice saves. Kai Appleton ‘24 and Owen McNally led the defense today. Evan Francis ‘26 continued to make smart plays and Jake Pleau “26 was an ironman in the midfield. Niraj Prakash ‘26 made his first start of the season and received an ovation from his teammates. Martlet Mush for practice on Monday followed by a pizza party at Pratt House. The season ends on Wednesday at Kent School.
