Unstoppable!

Frantz Batoh
Westminster had the ball for the first kick. The first few minutes of the game looked even; both teams had possession of the ball and were trying to attack. Around 4 minutes into the first half, off of a pass from Eliza Cabot '24, striker Schuyler Groves '26 dribbled the ball across the field, and opened wide, took her first shot at the goal, putting Westminster in the lead 1-0. Taft started playing more aggressively, seeing that it would take much work. However, the Martlets did not slow down and kept playing as best as possible. A few minutes later, Westminster had scored twice, thanks to a very accurate kick from midfielder Lexie Willis '26, who was determined to score during this game. After that, the Martlets' confidence grew, and they started accelerating the game's pace. Ten minutes later, Colby Smith '24 scored Westminster's third goal off of an assist from Margaux Walter '27. As hard as Taft tried to score, the defense did not let them; as quickly as possible, Payton Harding '24 would make passes to the midfield, ensuring her teammates could keep moving up. The first half concluded with one more goal from Eliza Cabot '24. The striker scored from a pass from Schuyler Groves, '26, kicking the ball from right in front of the goal. After half-time, the spirits were high, and the Martlets were determined to improve their passes and team cohesion. With that in mind, they kept making accurate and fast passes and getting to the ball first, which put them in the lead. Halfway through the second half, Groves scored her second goal, putting Westminster at a five-goal advantage from Taft. Then, making herself the player of the day, Colby Smith scored the last three goals, having discovered her strategy for getting the ball in the goal. Her teammates assisted, making accurate passes and getting the ball past the defense line, and she was careful in receiving them and making calculated kicks that would get past the goalie. The team cohesion improved during the second half and enabled Westminster to achieve a wonderful result. Go Martlets!
