Martlets Defeat Suffield

Westminster made the short trip to Suffield to take on the Tigers in the rain for their first of three games on the week. The Martlets started strong, using the energy from their weekend victory to fuel their efforts. Lily Vincent ‘25 opened the scoring just minutes into the game when she finished off a pass from Olivia Emerson ‘24. The Martlets continued to hold possession for most of the opening frame, and Sydney Courtmanche added to the score with two minutes to go when she tipped in a shot from Vincent on a penalty corner. Westminster did a great job adjusting to the turf and the weather and continued to showcase strong passing sequences up field for the remainder of the half. Sophia Peterson ‘24, Allysen Whitehead ‘25, and Courtmanche all had a great day in the midfield, stepping to lose balls and keeping momentum up field. Olivia Gordon ‘24 added another to the board after halftime when she finished a pass from Talia Ondy ‘25 and Courtmanche on a broken penalty corner just before Suffield added one of their own. The final tally was similar to the first as Vincent capitalized on a pass from Emerson to bring the final score to 4-1. It was a gritty effort by the Martlets to earn a solid win on the road. The team will enjoy a day off tomorrow on the Hill Holiday before traveling to Taft for their final Founders’ League matchup of the regular season!
