Martlets Defeat Suffield

The 3BS team had a very entertaining, back-and-forth battle with the Suffield Tigers today! The teams took some time to get to know each other in the early part before Suffield broke through in the 22’. Our Martlets continued to battle and tied the game late in the first half (31’) when Lane Gallagher ‘25 finished off a nice give-and-go passing series (Gus McGarvey ‘26 with the assist). Early in the second half (40’) Jake Pleau ‘26 converted from another pass by McGarvey. This lead was short-lived as Suffield knotted the game in the 43’. Goalie Brenden Gilooly partially deflected the initial shot and as it continued toward the goal line he scrambled after it and threw it back from the line only to have the ball ricochet off a Suffield player and wind up in the goal. Pleau put the Martlets ahead again in the 57’ as he finished a nice play started by Gallagher (secondary hockey assist) as his shot crossed the mouth of the goal. Tommy Coccaro ‘26 found Pleau for the goal. Once again, though, our lead was quickly erased (the next minute) as Suffield started with a goal kick and moved the ball directly up the field to score. With 3 minutes remaining in the game, Coccaro scored on a rebound from a shot by Jayden Lee ‘25. Still, we couldn’t finish the game without drama…with less than 2 minutes in the game a handball called against us in the box gave the Tigers the chance to tie the score on a penalty kick. Gilooley came up strong to save the PK and preserve the win! 3BS hosts Frederick Gunn School on Saturday.
