Martlets Win!

Frantz Batoh
The game started with Deerfield in possession of the ball. They played well, made efficient passes, and beat the Westminster players to the most balls. Westminster made repeated attempts to get the ball, with only two shots on goal for the entire first half. Despite this dominance, neither team scored a goal. During the second half, the game's pace was equally fat, or possibly faster. The Martlets were determined to give their best. They went into the field with a winning mindset. The game changed; Westminster had more possession of the ball during this half. Midfielders Abbey Cirelli ’27 and Westie Strawbridge ’24 orchestrated passes and repeatedly took the ball from Deerfield. From a free kick, Margaux Walter, ’27, scored the game's first goal about five minutes into the second half. Mei Yin Ren ’26, the goalie, also had to work hard and successfully saved quite a few shots from the Deerfield offense. Sarah Rocchio ’24, leading the defense, was determined to win as many balls as possible, ensuring that Deerfield would not score. With 10 minutes left on the clock, Eliza Cabot ’24 scored the game's second goal, off of a rebound from Colby Smith’s ’24 earlier shot. The opposing team started working harder to score with Westminster in the lead. The Martlets did not slow down. However, Deerfield scored with a few minutes left for the game to be over, making the marker 2-1. It was not an easy game for the team, but the resulting score proved their grit on the field. Go Martlets!
