Martlets Defeat Williston

This Saturday, the Martlets played against the Wildcats of Williston. It was a picture-perfect fall day for parent’s weekend, and the Girl’s Varsity Soccer team added to the lively energy around campus. Westminster came out strong and found many moments of dominance. Eventually, their hard work paid off when they were able to add their first point to the scoreboard. In the attacking third, Mia Fluckiger ‘26 received the ball from Kaitlyn McQueeney ‘24, and played a nice through ball into the box for Jillian Gregorski ‘24 to run onto. Gregorski took a quick touch and placed the ball in the farside corner. Six minutes later, Gregorski returned the favor to Fluckiger. After dribbling past multiple Wildcat defenders, Gregroski crossed the ball for Fluckiger to finish one touch into the back of the Williston net. Westminster entered the second half up 2-0, but still had two more goals to score in the next 40. The third goal of the game started with Haley Cramer ‘24 who played a leading ball to Catherine Graves ‘24. Graves dribbled up the flank and crossed the ball into the box for Gregorski to head into the net. The final goal of the game started from the Martlet backline. Center back Hayley Fineberg ‘26 played a great through ball up the field to Elysse Cumberland ‘24 who scored after taking a few dribbles into the box to position herself right in front of the net. With this win, the Martlets are 7-1-1 on the season. The team looks forward to their next game this upcoming Wednesday against the Gators of Greenwich Academy. The game will be played away at 3:30 PM.
