Martlets Pickup Road W

The Martlets made the trek down to Greenwich this Wednesday to battle against the Gators of Greenwich Academy. Perhaps due to the long bus ride, Westminster had a slow start as the team struggled to stitch together passes and finish their multiple scoring opportunities. The Gators remained strong against the Martlet attack, and also had a few chances close to the Westminster net throughout the first 40 minutes which were saved by goalie Emme Pacheco-Hager ‘25. When the whistle blew for halftime, the Martlets regrouped and discussed areas for improvement in the second half. Thankfully, Westminster flipped the switch and entered the second half with more urgency and an increased focused on the notes discussed during the break. The first goal for the Martlets came with 22 minutes left on the clock. Blessing Kieh ‘24 received the ball from Jillian Gregorski ‘24 and dribbled in the Gator box before slipping the ball past the hands of the Greenwich Academy keeper. After this goal, the Martlets continued to gain momentum and scored a second with 11 minutes remaining. Haley Cramer ‘24 played a solid long through ball to Catherine Graves ‘24 who crossed it into the box for Kaitlyn McQueeney ‘24 to finish one-touch into the back of the Gator net. The score remained 2-0 until the clock struck zero. With this win, the Martlets are 8-1-1 on the season. The squad looks forward to their next game this upcoming Saturday against Kingswood Oxford. A short drive away to West Hartford, the game will be played at 2 PM.
