Martlets Defeat AOF

The 4th Boys Soccer Team, aka the "Quad Squad," put together a complete, dominant game on the new turf in front of a Parents' Weekend crowd and came away with a 7-1 victory over Avon Old Farms. We controlled the ball early on but couldn't break into the scoring column until the 26-minute mark of the first half, mostly because Avon's goalie played exceptionally well. Tim Donahue set up Jordan Pham to tally the first score, and the floodgates opened, as we scored two more goals in the next four minutes. Derrick Logan earned his first assist of the season by setting up Caden Cramer with a booming kick from midfield. Hunter Grace kept his scoring streak alive with an unassisted goal off his own rebounded shot. Ethan Villacis dominated from the left wing throughout, and Rohan Satpathy, who had his best all-around game of the year, played effectively in the back wall. It didn't take us nearly as long to get things started in the second half: Donahue headed in a brilliant cross from Villacis, and only two minutes later Donahue set up Pham for the second time on the afternoon. Right wing Derek Waddell scored his first of the season on a rebounded shot from Colin Day, and Grace closed out the scoring on the day by setting up midfielder Khang Ngo. Auggie Jiranek had another excellent all-around game and was especially effective early in the game despite having to play an extra shift due to our being short-handed. Coaches Lawler and Tawney are very proud of the squad, not only for their commanding victory, but also for the good spirit and class the boys played with throughout the game. This was a nice way to go into the much-anticipated long weekend, and we hope the players return from their well-deserved break rested and ready to take on the Granby High Freshman team.
