Martlets Draw with Williston

The JV Boys started the game well, taking a 1-0 lead in the first five minutes after some good handiwork from Alex Do ‘24. Alex capitalized on some hesitation from the Williston defenders to fire the ball past the keeper at close range. He made this goal happen with his movement off the ball and intelligence to play to the whistle. Alex supports his teammates so well, making them look good with his work off the ball or encouraging them to make the right pass. The team cohesion this afternoon led to much of our good work on the field, and Alex was critical to this success. Teddy Russell ‘26 scored the second with a glancing shot that crept past the keeper at the near post. It was a tough afternoon for Teddy, but he once again popped up in the right place at the right time to restore the Martlets’ lead. Teddy pairs just enough silk with his steel to keep the team progressing forward, and does not understand the concept of a lost cause. He keeps plays alive with his attitude and was once again rewarded with a goal. The second half was evenly poised with both teams tiring and creating space for each other to work in. Williston threatened the Westminster goal on several occasions, but Danny Maher ‘26 made a series of excellent saves to keep the scoreline even. Aidan O’Callahan ‘26 has emerged as a solid defender for the team, and is improving his understanding of the game with each session. In a match where the forwards’ missed chances draw much of the excitement, it is important to recognize Aidan’s efforts to keep Westminster in the game. Aidan made a number of saving clearances and gave the Williston forwards little joy this afternoon. All in all this was a good team performance on an energy sapping afternoon, and the team raised its levels once again. KO are up next with an early 1pm kick off on Saturday.
