Martlets Draw with Pomfret

The 3BS team finally played their first home game of the season on Saturday when they hosted Pomfret School. The Griffins entered the game with a 1-2-0 record on the season with each of their games decided by a goal. With a roster of nearly 30 players, almost twice as many as our Martlet roster, Pomfret looked early to use their numbers to play aggressively and quickly. The Martlets of 3BS held strong in the early playing and settled into our own form of soccer: some long clears from the defensive zone into smart midfield play leading to offensive scoring chances. While the Martlets were able to change the tide of the game, the Pomfret goalkeeper saved the day for his team with numerous timely saves and catches off multiple corner kicks we generated. George Baird ‘26 and Brenden Gilooly ‘26 each played a half in goal and each made several nice plays. Kai Appleton ‘24 again led from the defense and created several good offensive opportunities. Our midfield play was anchored in large measure by our “hockey boys” (Jake Pleau ‘26, Gus McGarvey ‘26, and Tommy Coccaro ‘26) who, being used to quick shifts on the ice, were able to replicate that substitution pattern on the pitch. This style of substituting balanced out the numerical advantage Pomfret had. Other players with strong games include Mark Richardson ‘25 and Owen McNally ‘26. Our next game is on Wednesday at Taft.
