Martlets Defeat Choate

This Saturday, the Martlets played at home against the Wild Boars of Choate. Both teams came out ready to play, and the Wild Boars set the tone early with a goal within the first four minutes of the game. After dribbling down the right side of the 18, the Choate was able to get the ball into the center of the box and finish. Immediately after, the Martlets regrouped and came ready to rebuttal. With 14 minutes remaining in the first half, Catherine Graves ‘24 played the ball across the field to Elysse Cumberland ‘24. Cumberland cut the ball back, beat a defender, and found Kaitlyn McQueeney ‘24 running on into the Choate box. With one touch, McQueeney buried the ball on the ground near the farside post. Now with the momentum on their side, the Martlets were eager to secure the lead. With five minutes until halftime, Blessing Kieh ‘24 played the ball into the Wild Boars’ box, and Cumberland was there the finish one-touch into the back of the Choate net. Westminster entered the second half looking to continue their solid level of play and prevent the Wild Boars from finding the net. The final 40 minutes was a hard-fought battle between the two teams, each having moments of dominance. Goalie Emme Pacheco-Hager ‘25 had multiple important saves for the Martlets to keep their lead until the final whistle blew. With an important week ahead of them, the team looks forward to working hard in practice on Monday with their eyes set on their upcoming game this Wednesday. The Martlets will play at Miss Porter’s School at 3 PM.
