Martlets Shutout Kent

On a beautiful fall day, the Martlets were able to play their first home game of the season on their beautiful, brand-new turf field. The Martlets took the field to play against Kent today and came away with a 6-0 victory. Early on, Westminster had multiple scoring opportunities. The first goal of the day came within the first 4 minutes of the game when Mia Davis ‘24 threw the ball into Jillian Gregorski ‘24 who dribbled past the end line past a Kent defender, cut right in front of the net, and slipped the ball past the goalie on the nearside post. Ten minutes later, Kent played a short goal kick, and Mia Fluckiger ‘26 applied high pressure and forced Kent to lose possession. Blessing Kieh ‘24 was there to win the ball and found Catherine Graves ‘24 in the 18. Graves beat a defender in the box and placed the ball into the back of the Kent net. The score remained 2-0 until halftime, and the Martlets entered the second half with a bit more energy and urgency and, as a result, were able to score four more goals. Three minutes into the second half, Elysse Cumberland ‘24 was reaching the Kent end line, and sliced the ball back to Blessing Kieh ‘24 who sailed the ball over the keeper’s hands. With 29 minutes remaining, Graves received the ball from Maya Goddard ‘26, dribbled into the box with high pressure from a Kent defender, and fired a shot towards the far post for the fourth goal of the match. The fifth goal came from Gregorski. With 26 minutes remaining on the clock, Graves found Gregorski, who then unleashed a long-range shot outside the 18 which ultimately nestled in the back of the Kent net. The final goal of the game came three minutes later from Hannah Coccaro ‘26 who received the ball off of Emma Isakoff’s ‘25 corner kick. Coccaro took a few dribbles outside the 18, and sailed a ball in the upper 90 of the Kent goal. Goalies Emme Pacheco-Hager ‘25 and Ellie Smith ‘27 secured the shutout for the game today. It was a special day for the Westminster Girls’ soccer team. Another full team effort, the Martlets are eager to play again this Saturday against the Wild Boars of Choate at 3:30 PM. The game will be played at home.
