Martlets Draw with Nobles

The Martlets journeyed to Nobles this Saturday for their third match of the season. Despite the overcast skies and occasional raindrops, Westminster came ready to take on a skilled Nobles team. The two goals of the day game were scored in the initial ten minutes of the match, with Nobles striking first. Just seven minutes into the game, the Bulldogs were able to successfully finish a cross that came from the right side, placing the ball in the Martlet net. Following a brief regrouping, the Martlets responded with a comeback, courtesy of a goal from Jillian Gregoski ‘24. After being awarded a corner kick, Maya Goddard ‘26 executed a beautifully lofted delivery into the box. With true grit, Haley Cramer ‘24 headed the ball and set the stage for Gregorski to slot it home. The remainder of the first half remained scoreless, and the Martlets were able to refocus during halftime and discuss areas of improvement for the next 40 minutes. The second half proved to be a back-and-forth between the Bulldogs and the Martlets. Both teams experienced momentum at times, and each had solid chances on the net. Despite their efforts, the final whistle blew and Westminster headed home with a 1-1 tie. The quick turf paired with the rain proved to be a challenge for the Martlets today, but the team looks forward to the week ahead. The squad’s first home game will be this upcoming Wednesday, September 27th, at 3 PM against Kent.
