Martlets Fall to Deerfield

This game was the first of the season for the Thirds Girls. They brought great energy from beginning to end and showed signs of a solid team already early in the season. Deerfield scored with under a minute left in the first half on a lofty finesse kick from the top of the box that somehow found its way into the net. It was an unfortunate break for the team. In the second half, a Deerfield striker intercepted a goalie feed and put another lofty ball into the net for a 2-0 lead. Soon after, however, Ellie Pearman ‘25 fed Kaitlyn Buda ‘27 who turned the great pass into a score for the first team goal of the season. Many opportunities followed as the team found energy, and nearly tied the game several times, but on this day it was not to be. Two players found themselves on the field for the entire match and should be commended for their effort: newcomers Eliza Reilly ‘27 and Simon McSherry ‘25. One of the team captains, Grace Doherty ‘24 played stellar defense as well. There were different goalies in each half, and both played solidly in net: Lily Raskind ‘25 and Lily Shuster ‘27. Shuster was playing her first ever game as a goalie! Other solid efforts were seen from Melody El-Amin Stewart ‘27 at midfield and Camilla Norton ‘25 on defense.
