Martlets Fall to Hydra

The Westminster Boys Water Polo team took to the pool for our first Friday night engagement, falling 11-5 to the New Haven Hydra. The visitors came out swinging with a barrage of goals in the first quarter. Wills Erda ‘24 made a valiant effort on several of the shots. Austin Black ‘24 and Reginald Kanu ’25 held down the middle, causing several turnovers and making life difficult for the New Haven attack throughout the game. Erda continued his good form, racking up 7 saves as the Martlets looked to mount a comeback. Goals from Kanu and Will Whiting ‘25 closed the gap to 4 by halftime. The second half proved to be similar as the visitors extended their lead in the third quarter to 7, closing out the win despite a fourth quarter rally by the Martlets. Other debuts in the pool were Hudson Black ‘27, who provided support on the outside with some nice passing and Trent Jones ‘25, whose consistent effort afforded him some good teamwork in several dangerous positions. The boys will look to pick up their first win against Williston at midweek.
