Martlets Shutout Hoggers

The Martlets opened up their 2023 fall season this Saturday with a win against the Hoggers of Northfield Mount Hermon. From the beginning of the match, the Martlets kept possession and were dangerous in their attack. Within the first six minutes, Blessing Kieh ‘24 scored the first goal of the season off of an assist from captain Jillian Gregorski ‘24. Shortly after, Catherine Graves ‘24 added another point for the Martlets with her goal assisted by Elysse Cumberland ‘24. With 20 minutes remaining in the first half, Westminster was awarded a corner kick. After a great ball was played into the box and fumbled back and forth between the Martlets and Hoggers, Maya Goddard ‘26 placed the ball into the back of the net. Westminster entered the second half up 3-0, but still had a few goals left to score. Within the first five minutes of the second half, Cumberland played a ball across the 18 for Gregorski to finish. Less than a minute later, Kieh scored her second goal of the game. The final goal of the game was a wonderful one-touch finish by Graves into the back of the Hogger net with 27 minutes left on the clock. A true team effort, the Martlets played with plenty of grit and grace and earned their first win of the season. The team looks forward to their next game this Wednesday, September 20th, against Deerfield Academy at 3:30 pm.
