Martlets Fall on the Road

The Martlets took the short ride north to take on Suffield on their new turf field. To quote the famous baseball movie Major League “who are these guys''. The team has added 14 new players and only returns 2 starters from last year's team. In a game which is always physical with Suffield, Westminster held their ground against a bigger team. It was a good test for a team that started 3 sophomores and a freshman. Suffield broke the scoring with about 15 mins to go in the first half when they were awarded a PK. Up until then the game was pretty much played in the middle of the field. The center midfield core for Westminster; Abraham Monsee ‘25, Finn Hocking ‘26 and Galima Sonnah ‘26 all got their feet wet and were able to string some passes and possession together. New starting goalie Dennis Quiwon ‘26 was outstanding making 8 saves and helping lead the new back line. Westminster’s new two starting center backs Jackson Raymond ‘24 and Owen O’Farrell ‘24 brought a ton of leadership and also athleticism which helped keep Suffield’s top players to the outside, both players were great at clearing balls out of the box both in the air and on the ground. The second half became more busy for the outside midfielders and back as Suffield utilized their speed down the flanks. Leo DiStefano ‘24, Finn Williams ‘26 and Nathan Lee ‘24 rotate around to stay up to the task. Henry Warner ‘25, Arshaan Shah ‘25 and Luka Misko ‘27 all showed that their skill and speed is going to be a big impact for the Martlets this season. Suffield however was able to seal the 2-0 win with a goal late on a breakdown inside the box. Playing up top in his first start was Dylan ‘Birdman' ' Wendle ‘25. Dylan is a second year varsity player who saw little action last season, he looks primed to impact this year. Other players seeing their first action in a Westminster uniform was; Matt Gregorski ‘27, Garrett Rohrbaugh ‘27, Nick Lopriore ‘26, Connor Gray ‘26, Dan Olaosebiken ‘26. The game wrench was awarded to Quiwon for his strong play in net.
