Martlets Defeat Miss Porter's

The day was opportune for the Martlets’ last home meet of the season (and senior day!). The girls hosted Miss Porter’s for a dual race over Parent’s Weekend, and managed to pull off a narrow win over the Miss Porter’s squad (the Martlets’ third win in a row). In the first lap of the course Porter’s secured the first two spots, but Saskia Mattiko ‘23 was close behind them in third. A pack of Westminster girls followed, packed with Miss Porter’s girls and Emma Mason ‘23, Chiamaka Kanu ‘23, Hayden Schneider ‘25, Catie McGuigan ‘23, and Simone Routledge ‘23. Coming into the final straightaway of the course — after finishing a difficult uphill stretch — Mattiko clinched third place for the Martlets. Mason and Kanu finished in fourth and fifth place respectively, behind Miss Porters’ first and second place runners. Porter’s placed sixth, followed by Schneider, who hauled down the last 100m of the course. Routledge battled a Porter’s runner who finished just ahead of her, placing ninth. McGuigan secured a strategic 10th place, ahead of Miss Porters’ fifth and sixth place runners. The final score was 28-28, but McGuigan’s finish established the victory for the Martlets on the last day on their home course for the season. Other notable performances included returning runner Alice Liu ‘23 who ran her first race of the season, and Sabrina Yang ‘26 who ran her first 5K ever. The Martlets are looking forward to getting some rest over Long Weekend and returning ready to train for the next two weeks—leading up until Founders.
