Martlets Fall to Loomis

Continuing a run of home games in late September, the Westminster Water Polo team took on Loomis Chaffee in what was a competitive game between two evenly matched sides. The home side jumped out to an early lead through captain Mason Zottola ’23 who finished emphatically from range. The first half showed the teams to be well matched as both sides matched each other goal for goal. Filip Tomic ’25 and Andrew Pang ’24 played great defense to force some stops and Wills Erda ’24 shined again in goal, making a number of crucial saves to keep the score close heading into halftime. After a rousing team talk from Coach Kendall at the half, the Martlets looked to hammer the Pelicans inside. Will Whiting ’24 managed to grab the first two goals of his Westminster career and Simon Stambaugh ’26 had an impressive cameo, showing grit on a few fast breaks to create some chances for the home side. Unfortunately, the Pelicans were able to break through the Westminster defense and extend their lead in the middle of the third quarter. The home side managed to cut the advantage to four with a strong final quarter performance but ran out of time. Also scoring for the Martlets were captain Owen Huang ’24 and Andrew Hu’25. The Westminster boys will take a lot of pride in their performance today and will look to carry that momentum into their return fixture versus Hamden Hall this Saturday.
