Martlets Win on the Road

This Saturday, the Martlets traveled to Wilbraham to battle again the Titans of Wilbraham & Monson Academy on a nice fall day. To start the match, Westminster brought solid energy to the field and was gritty in their attack. Having many scoring opportunities early on, the Martlets were able to get a point on the board within the first six minutes of the match. With 34:25 on the clock, Catherine Graves ‘24 received the ball from teammate Jillian Gregorski ‘24, and placed it in the corner of the Titans net. This goal marked Graves’ fifth of the season. A bit later in the half, Westminster set up for a corner. After a missed clearance opportunity, Kalilah Akbar ‘23 received the rebound off the corner and scored her first goal of the season. Less than five minutes after, Gregorski scored her first goal of the game off of an assist from teammate Blessing Kieh ‘24. The Martlets entered the second half with a focus on their movement off of the ball and an emphasis on playing simple and quickly. With these ideas in mind, Westminster was able to score an additional two goals. Ten minutes into the half, Mia Fluckiger ‘26 scored with the help of Elysse Cumberland’s ‘24 assist. The final goal of the match was from Gregorski. After being fouled in the box and awarded a PK, Gregorski placed the ball effortlessly into the right corner of the goal. This goal marked Gregorski’s second of the match, and fifth of the season. Overall, it was a great full team effort today! With this win, the Martlets advance to 3-0 on the season. The team travels to Kent to take on the Kent School this Wednesday, Sept. 28th, at 3:00 pm. Let’s go Marlets!
