Martlets Fall to Williston

Varsity Girls Swimming & Diving traveled to Williston today for an afternoon meet and came away with several quality results. The racing began with a second-place finish in 200 Medley Relay from co-captain Lucy Benoit ‘23, Chiamaka Kanu ‘23, Hayden Schneider ‘25, and co-captain Margaret Breen ‘23. Moments later, Scheider stepped up for a second-place finish in the 200 Freestyle with a season-best time. Grace Tyler ‘24 swam a fine race in the 200 IM to win, with Madison Khuu ‘24 taking fifth with her best time, and Kanu and Breen placed second and third in the 50 Free, respectively. Riley Vincent ‘23 and Cecily Belford ‘24 went 1-2 in the diving, and Benoit won the 100 Fly. Tyler finished second in the 500 Freestyle just before she led off the 200 Freestyle Relay along with Catie McGuigan ‘23, Khuu, and Kanu, placing second. Tomasina Pearman ‘23 and Emma Mason ‘23 both get shouts for courageous efforts in the 100 Backstroke, and Benoit came back with a win in the 100 Breaststroke, breaking her own school record with a time of 1:07.70, with Kanu taking third. In the day’s final race, Schneider, Tyler, and Breen swam the first three legs of the 400 Freestyle Relay. Benoit dove in with a three second disadvantage in the final leg but closed the gap to inches coming into the wall. In a photo finish, she touched just .13 behind her WNS counterpart. Nevertheless, it was a great swim and an exciting finish to a great day of swimming for the Black & Gold.
